Cecily and School
Today was my darling girl’s first day at preschool. At 15 months, she’s precocious and incredibly advanced.
- She can count to 10.
- She does well with her letters; she can sing parts of the alphabet song and recognise several letters by sight.
- She can sing several songs and nursery rhymes.
- She can help with the dishes.
- She can use a real cup (though we usually give her a toddler cup to avoid spills).
- She says “please”, “thank you”, and “excuse me”.
- She loves books and tries to read them on her own.
- She can take pictures with the digital camera (mostly of her thumb, though)
- She puts herself to bed without any fuss when bedtime (or naptime) rolls around.
Apparently, she had a blast. Which is just as well as she wakes up every morning asking about “school”. I think this will stimulate her a whole lot and help us figure out where she really is in her learning - it’s hard to keep up with her developing so fast.
Just this morning I noticed a new thing - she now talks about teddy or dolly wanting breakfast, projecting emotional states onto her toys.
Sadly, Mom did not have quite as much fun; she was the only new Mom today and the others did not sound like they went out of their way to make her feel welcome. Hopefully she’ll feel like one of the group in a couple of weeks; I don’t want her to stress out about taking Cecily there.
